IS THERE AN ELEMENT OF CORRUPTION IN THIS PROJECT WITH THE PEGAWAI HUTAN DAERAH, BUKIT TINGGI, BENTONG & THE PENGARAH PERHUTANAN NEGERI PAHANG.  ?????

IS THE MENTERI BESAR (CHIEF MINISTER) DATO SRI DIRAJA HAJI ADNAN BIN HAJI YAAKOB OF PAHANG INVOLVED IN A CORRUPTION SCANDAL IN BOGA VALLEY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.  ??????  more question then answers

Earthquake measuring 3.9 hits magnitude have occurred in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang,The tremors, which first measured 3.9 on the Richter scale on Nov 30,Meteorological Services Department director-general Dr Yap Kok Seng had said there was a very old fault line near Bukit Tinggi that had been dormant for more than 1.6 million years.

Another earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale occurred at the epicenter of  Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, Pahang at 9.41am on Friday morning dated Dec 4th, 2009.

The last tremor felt in Bukit Tinggi was on Oct 8 at about 5.50am. It measured 2.8 on the Richter scale. Oct 9 (Bernama).

Eight minor earthquakes shook Bukit Tinggi in Pahang between 4.45am and 12.05pm, the Meteorological Department said on 9th October, 2009 and it seems like the earthquake fever has now officially shifted to Malaysia. From what we know, Malaysia lies away from the ring of fire, where Indonesia is situated but looking at things now, the truth about Malaysia moving towards the Indian Ocean is true ( blogger coolgardy ).

The idle lives enjoyed by the people and visitors  around Bukit Tinggi abruptly disrupted by the occurrence of not one but three earthquakes on November 30, 2007 were further jolted by more than ten more times with the latest event in May 2008.

Records of these quakes were analyzed to make some sense of their existence. The quakes fit the characteristics of cluster earthquakes or earthquake swarms which are usually associated with motions along a fault line or a fault zone.  The epicenters were located within the Bukit Tinggi fault zone.

Kenyir Earthquakes

(Reservoir Induced Seismicity – RIS) Kenyir Dam started to experience earthquakes after the reservoir was filled in 1984. The biggest tremor registered at magnitude 5 on the Richter scale. About 20 tremors were recorded in the span of 3 years. Reservoir Induced Seismicity (RIS) are earthquake activity associated with dams. Possible causes include stress from added weight of the water destabilizing the region, and water seepage through cracks reactivate existing faults or fractures.

Dams that had induced RIS commonly have maximum height of water column of more than 100m and reservoir volume of more than 1 km3.  Kenyir Dam’s height fits the catergory as its height is 150m and the capacity is 13.6 km3.

Seismograph from a portable seismograph (Courtesy of the Metalogical Geophysics and Tsunami Dept) showing two  earthquakes on 21 December 1984. The first one occurred at 0928 with a magnitude of 4.6. The second was a magnitude 3.4 occurring some 3 minutes later. The trace was recorded by a station in Ipoh. This paper presents the study on the cause of the recent, small and shallow earthquakes. The results of the study show that the earthquakes are located at or near to the intersection of three sets of major lineaments trending N-S, NW-SE and NE-SW. This corresponds to the N-S faults, the NW-SE Bukit Tinggi. The Bukit Tinggi earthquakes occurred in a region of  an abnormally high concentrations of major ancient faults and hot springs. Since 30 November 2007, around 23 earthquakes have occurred in Bukit Tinggi and the surrounding areas.

The Bukit Tinggi area is dissected by several intersecting lineaments/fault zones (Figure 4). These were mapped from remote sensing imagery of the surface (topography, SRTM digital elevation model, and aerial photos), and have been subject to rigorous verification with field-mapped fault data by various geologists (Shu, 1969; Ng, 1994; Zaiton Harun, 2002).

CONCLUSION

The relationship between the location of the Bukit Tinggi earthquakes, known major faults and hot springs is intriguing. The earthquake occurrences in the Bukit Tinggi area were the result of fault reactivation due to intraplate stress build-up.

1.     The question are what kind of arrangement does the Menteri Besar  of Pahang has with Boga Valley Corporation Sdn Bhd to do a massive land clearing of 620 acres ????? What does he benefit in this for him to rush this project?

2.     Why does the right of use of access track road provided in national land code being deprived by the state enforcement agencies with the contractor to the Land Owners & farmers. ?????

3.     A massive project like this at the hill can cause enormous damage irreparable to climate and environment. Why did the respective agencies approve this project??? Who are the agencies involved? Is there an element of corruption?

 4.   Why are the public and the NGO's not allowed to verify the area by the developer??

We need the MACC & the police  to conduct an investigation with the Transparency International Secretariat Malaysia Friends of the Earth Malaysia  and Malaysian Nature Society the involvement of Human Rights Watch on the happenings pertaining to the above project.
